How do you create designs that have a huge impact? This question and many more are answered in our paper Tips and Techniques series on YouTube. These videos are one of our lesser-known assets. They use real-life examples and break down different paper selection strategies. We are armed with Cougar(r), w/Purpose, and Lynx (r) Where Beauty & Performance Meet. We do our best to be a resource for all who require it. But you don’t need to believe me. We’re sharing a few highlights and a glimpse at what’s next.
Paper Selection
We would be remiss as a paper company if we did not start with the most important piece of any print project, the paper. It is important to know how to use photoshop and choose images strategically. However, understanding how your design will look on a sheet of paper can help you get your work up to the next level. It is crucial to choose the right paper for any print project. Knowing that a bright white sheet will make your colors pop off the page, or that a cream-colored sheet will give your project warmth and vintage feel are small nuggets that can make a big difference. Ask any print professional, and they will tell you that consistency, quality, and stopping power are all indicators of great paper. But sometimes, you just need a quick answer from the end of a search. Tips & Techniques allows us to deliver relevant and useful content to specific needs such as a question about cover weight.
Print Technology
There are many ways to emboss on paper. While techniques are helpful, it is not enough to know the differences in how subtle or obvious an emboss can look. Why should you choose one over another? Ashley can provide visual examples of many techniques in less than 2 minutes using our promos or submissions to the gallery. She will also break down what you are looking at and how it can help your project. Sometimes a visual aid can be just what you need to make a decision.
Designing for Print
It is a difficult art form to design for print. The video below shows you what to look out for when designing for ink-heavy projects. Ashley’s experience as both a designer/brand manager allows her to explain the basics in a way that is familiar to creatives planning print projects. Tips & Techniques’ beauty isn’t its ability to explain color better than any other print professional. It shares the small things like how to give an image a vintage look or add warmth. These nuances are the result of years of experience in print and design.
Future Content
Tips and Techniques is designed to simplify complicated topics and help you have more meaningful conversations about paper. You can find helpful tips and tricks on YouTube if you are stuck in planning or need some help with a project. Although a professional print marketer can give you much of the information in these videos, it is sometimes more beneficial to be able watch a quick video that answers any questions you might have. As we tackle new topics and the difficult world of print, look out for Meredith Collins or Nicholas Pearson to join the series.
